Catalina Airport sits in Avalon, California on Catalina Island. Field elevation is 1,602 ft MSL. The airport has one runway, 04/22, at 3,000 ft on concrete. There is no control tower. No ILS approaches are published. Pattern altitude is not published, so verify the current Chart Supplement before you go. For light piston traffic, the published note points to the standard 1,000 ft AGL pattern unless the current supplement says otherwise.
This is not a place to plan like a normal mainland strip. The field has a steep gradient. Pilots cannot see aircraft on the opposite end of the runway from their position. Make your UNICOM call before taking the active runway. Runway 22 is the preferred landing direction. Runway 04 has a steep downslope on the final 2,300 ft. The airport is limited to full stop landings only. Intersection takeoffs are prohibited. Runway 04/22 is limited by the airport operator to 12,500 lb maximum takeoff weight. No jet aircraft operations are authorized. Operations are prohibited at night or when the airport is unattended. Catalina Island Conservancy manages the airport. Contact the airport operator directly for current status. Call the FBO directly by phone if you need current service details. There are no on-field FBOs listed in the facts.
